Pro Bivy

The MSR Pro Bivy is designed specifically for fast-and-light alpine pushes, mountaineering ascents, and emergency use where every ounce counts and flat pitching space does not exist. It strips away all extraneous hardware, foregoing poles, bug nets, and internal volume in favor of raw packability and immediate weather protection. If your objective demands sleeping on a narrow snow ledge or crashing on an exposed ridgeline, this minimalist cocoon delivers the bare essentials without fuss.

Crafted with a water-resistant, breathable upper and a bathtub-style floor treated with MSR's Xtreme Shield coating, the bivy is engineered to survive prolonged contact with wet snow and damp ground. The polyurethane coating is particularly resistant to hydrolysis, helping prevent the tacky degradation common in older waterproof fabrics over time. In the field, breathability is decent in cold, dry alpine air, but like all non-suspended bivies, sustained rain and high humidity will inevitably push condensation inside the footbox and upper shell.

At a weight and packed size roughly comparable to an insulated jacket, it disappears inside a summit pack. Durability is high for its weight class, though you sacrifice all semblance of livability. Because there is no hoop or wire to hold the hood off your face, you need a baseball cap or a strategically positioned backpack to create breathing room. Against fully featured bivies like the Outdoor Research Helium, the Pro Bivy cuts weight and bulk significantly, but it demands an experienced user comfortable with cramped, purely utilitarian confines.
