Its 1095 high carbon steel blade, typically 1/4-inch thick, is a robust choice for the abuse this knife is intended for. TOPS' heat treat on 1095 is generally solid, providing a good balance of toughness and edge retention, though like all high carbon steels, it requires care to prevent corrosion. The Micarta handle scales are a practical choice, offering excellent grip even when wet or with gloved hands, and they are bolted on for secure attachment. It’s significantly more refined and durable than most budget machetes, but also heavier and more expensive than many larger camp knives.
