Burris Signature HD 20-60x85 Spotting Scope

Big glass is a deliberate investment in both pack weight and optical reach, and the Burris Signature HD 20-60x85 is built specifically for hunters and long-range shooters who prioritize light transmission over ultralight mobility. Encased in a rugged, rubber-armored aluminum body, this full-sized spotter is sealed and nitrogen-purged to withstand foul mountain weather and heavy field abuse. The massive 85mm objective pulls in critical ambient light during the edges of legal shooting light, making it a dependable choice for stationary glassing setups.

Optically, the high-density glass controls chromatic aberration admirably across the lower and middle magnification ranges. Images remain crisp with accurate color rendition from 20x up through roughly 45x. As expected with optics in this tier, dialing up toward 60x introduces some softness around the perimeter and shrinks the exit pupil, demanding a completely stable tripod setup and deliberate eye placement. The coarse-and-fine dual focus mechanism helps immensely here, allowing you to dial in precise focus on distant antler tines or target impacts without hunting past the sweet spot.

At this size, the trade-off is clear: it is heavy and bulky, making it better suited to truck-based scouting, fixed vantage points, or guided setups than fast-and-light backcountry bivies. Compared to top-tier European glass costing three times as much, it sacrifices that final sliver of micro-contrast at max power, but it competes neck-and-neck with workhorses like the Vortex Viper HD and Athlon Ares while delivering rock-solid mechanical reliability.
