What stands out immediately is its construction: a combination of water-repellent suede and Crispi's proprietary high-resistance fabric, backed by a Gore-Tex Performance Comfort membrane. This isn't the most breathable Gore-Tex variant, but it offers a good balance of waterproofing and moisture transfer for varied conditions. The fit is generally on the snugger side, particularly through the midfoot, which translates to excellent foot control on uneven ground, though it might require a break-in period for wider feet. The high-cut ankle provides crucial support, making it suitable for carrying moderate loads over technical terrain where a sprained ankle could end a trip.

Underfoot, the Monaco GTX uses a Vibram outsole. While Crispi doesn't specify the exact compound, in our testing, it delivered reliable traction on wet rock, loose scree, and muddy trails.
