Maximus Centurion

The Maximus Centurion is engineered squarely for river guides, expedition paddlers, and rescue personnel who need a fully outfitted Type V vest without sacrificing torso mobility. Built around Kokatat's Dynamic Suspension System, the front flotation block moves independently on webbed tracks, shifting naturally as you rotate through high-angle paddle strokes or scramble over boulder chokes. It intentionally trades the featherweight simplicity of low-profile playboat vests for uncompromised impact protection and organizational capacity in high-consequence water.

Durability is anchored by a tough 500-denier Cordura nylon shell wrapped around PVC-free Gaia foam, resisting heavy abrasion against sharp granite and raft frames over seasons of commercial use. The storage configuration is designed for real field management: a spacious duplex front pocket swallows pulleys, prusiks, and webbing slings without bulging awkwardly, while dedicated routing keeps cowtails and rescue tethers flush against the torso to eliminate snag hazards. The quick-release chest harness operates reliably under tension and releases cleanly when tripped.

That rescue-ready capability carries noticeable mass. The thick chest profile can make re-entering a raft or climbing onto an overturned kayak deck clumsy, and the side-entry system requires patient adjustments across the side straps to eliminate torso ride-up. Against top-tier competitors like the Astral GreenJacket, this vest feels slightly more modular and offers a distinct floating chest feel, remaining a standard-bearer for boaters who prioritize immediate rescue hardware access over minimalist bulk.
