Echo Ubertube Bandana

The Outdoor Research Echo Ubertube is a versatile piece of headwear that often gets overlooked, but shouldn't. It's built from OR's proprietary Echo fabric, a lightweight polyester with 100% recycled content. The material is noticeably soft against the skin, and more importantly, highly breathable and quick-drying. While it doesn't boast a specific UPF rating on its tag, the fabric's tight weave offers decent sun protection, making it a good choice for exposed conditions. It's cut as a seamless tube, which means no irritating seams rubbing your neck or forehead.

In the field, the Ubertube disappears when you're wearing it. Its extremely low weight – around an ounce – means you barely feel it. We've used it as a neck gaiter for sun and dust protection, a headwrap for sweat management under a helmet, and even as a makeshift pot holder or pre-filter for murky water in a pinch. The moisture-wicking properties are impressive; it pulls sweat away efficiently and dries remarkably fast, even in humid environments. Durability is solid for such a lightweight fabric; we've seen these hold up to season after season of abuse with minimal pilling or stretching, though snags are possible with sharp objects due to the fine weave.

Compared to heavier merino wool options, the Ubertube prioritizes breathability and rapid drying over warmth. It's also typically more affordable than premium wool gaiters.
