The Rab Microlight Alpine jacket has been a staple in the lightweight insulation category for years, and for good reason. This combination offers a solid warmth-to-weight ratio for a jacket of its type, making it a versatile piece for mountain environments. While it's not designed for extreme cold, it excels as a mid-layer under a shell or as an outer layer in cool, dry conditions. Its zonal baffling means better insulation where you need it most, without adding unnecessary bulk.

In the field, the Microlight Alpine performs predictably well. The Pertex Quantum fabric does a decent job of shedding light moisture and blocking wind, though it's certainly not waterproof, nor is it intended to be. The 700 fill-power down provides substantial warmth for its weight, making it an excellent choice for shoulder-season hikes, chilly evenings at camp, or as a reliable belay jacket.
