The verdict

The Gradient Pant is SITKA’s answer to a narrow but real problem: staying warm under waders on cold mornings without bulky sweats bunching inside them. SITKA specifies compression-resistant fleece intended to keep its loft when wading deep, four-way stretch, tapered legs, a low-profile waistband and built-in stirrups, at a listed 28.8 oz. It also works as a stretchy insulating layer for cold sits, but it is not a waterproof or wind-blocking outer pant. Wild10 has not field-tested it, so warmth and durability notes are manufacturer-informed, not our own results.

SITKA listed the Gradient Pant at $199 (on sale for $139.30 in Optifade Elevated II) on October 19, 2026. Check Amazon for the current price, seller, size and pattern; Amazon stock and checkout have not been independently verified.

Key strengths

  • Compression-resistant fleece designed to hold loft under wader pressure
  • Four-way stretch fabric for mobility
  • Tapered legs and built-in stirrups keep it from riding up inside waders
  • Low-profile adjustable waistband that adds little bulk
  • Tall sizes (LT, XLT) plus M–3XL; four patterns including Earth

Watch out for

  • Fleece is not waterproof or windproof; it needs a shell or waders over it
  • 28.8 oz listed weight is substantial for a backpacking mid layer
  • Stirrups may not suit everyone wearing it as a standalone pant
  • No temperature rating published by SITKA
  • Full price is high for a fleece layer

Best for

  • Waterfowl hunters and anglers layering under waders in cold weather
  • Hunters wanting a stretchy insulating pant under shell pants
  • Long sits in blinds or stands where a mid layer is needed

What the Gradient Pant is built for

SITKA describes the Gradient as an added insulation layer for cold days under waders. Its compression-resistant fleece is meant to keep loft even when water pressure squeezes the wader against your legs, which is where ordinary fleece and cotton sweats tend to lose warmth.

Outside of waders, it is a stretchy insulating pant you can wear under shell pants on cold sits. It is not an outer layer for rain, wind or brush.

Fabric, stretch and moisture

SITKA lists four-way stretch fabric for mobility and says the fleece moves moisture away from the skin. That matters on the walk into a blind, when you warm up, and again when you sit still and start to cool.

We have not measured warmth, drying time or pilling. SITKA does not publish a temperature rating, so judge warmth by your own layering system.

Fit, stirrups and the waistband

The pant has a standard fit with tapered legs, a low-profile adjustable waistband and built-in stirrups. The stirrups keep the legs from riding up as you pull on waders or boots.

SITKA offers tall sizes (LT and XLT). Try them on with the base layer and waders you plan to use, and confirm the size and pattern on the Amazon listing before ordering.

Weight and where it fits in a kit

SITKA lists a total weight of 28.8 oz. That is reasonable for a waterfowl or blind-hunting kit where you drive close, but heavier than many packable insulation options for backpack hunts.

For mountain hunts where every ounce counts, a lighter synthetic or down insulating pant may make more sense.
