What our reviewers liked and didn't
Major XL (Kevlar)
- Extremely lightweight for certified bear protection
- Packs flat, excellent for space-conscious packing
- IGBC approved for both black and grizzly bears
- Highly resistant to tears and punctures from claws and teeth
- More flexible than rigid canisters for irregular items
- Food contents can still be crushed by bear activity
- Requires proper tying to an immovable object; cannot be left free-standing
- Higher cost compared to basic dry bags or traditional hanging systems
- Not accepted where hard-sided canisters are explicitly mandated
Bearikade Weekender
- World's lightest hard-sided bear canister in its class
- Exceptional durability from carbon fiber construction
- Oval shape improves packability and comfort
- Uncompromising bear-proof security
- Made in USA with high-quality craftsmanship
- Premium price point, significantly more expensive than plastic alternatives
- Lid requires a coin or tool to open, can be tricky with cold hands
- May be overkill for casual campers not venturing into strict bear country
