Wildlife
Desert bighorn sheep on the talus, black bears near Sand Wash, bald eagles in winter, and wild horses on the Ute Reservation side of the river.

| Spring | May – June | Peak runoff: high-volume Class III–IV water, silty and cold. The biggest rapids of the year. |
| Summer | June – August | 100°F+ heat, intense sun and severe mosquitoes through July. Falling flows. |
| Autumn | September – October | Moderate temperatures, stable lower flows and cottonwood color — many consider this the best window. |
| Winter | November – April | Cold desert conditions, possible river ice and very low flows. |
Water conditions
Flow is measured on the Green River at Green River, UT gauge. In drought years flows can drop below 800 CFS — bring a small, light boat and expect to drag. At peak runoff the canyon runs big and fast.
