The verdict
The Equinox is what happens when a pack company designs a turkey vest: pack-like suspension instead of straps and buckles, a minimalist pocket array that keeps every call dry and silent, and a foam seat that deploys for the sit and cinches tight when you run. At 44.5 ounces it is not the lightest vest on the rack, but the fit system (XS to XXL) and snag-free profile make it disappear on long hikes. For run-and-gun turkey hunting, this is the benchmark — and its organized, rugged layout translates surprisingly well to upland work too.

What I love
- Pack-style strap system adjusts from XS to XXL for a true custom fit
- Water-resistant clamshell pocket keeps two pot calls dry, with three diaphragm slots
- Snug box-call pocket eliminates unwanted noise on the move
- Removable dual-density foam seat deploys fast and cinches tight when running
- Four compression straps secure a bird without extra bulk
- Deployable blaze orange flags add a safety option for the walk out
Watch out for
- 44.5 oz — heavier than minimalist vests and the newer tool-belt style carriers
- Premium price, and popular colorways sell out
- One size system relies on adjustment rather than tailored sizing
Best for
- Run-and-gun turkey hunters who cover ground between setups
- Long hikes followed by motionless sits against a tree
- Hunters who want calls, strikers and tags organized and weather-protected
A pack, not a traditional vest
Sitka says it plainly: this is no traditional turkey vest. The Equinox takes a pack-like approach, built around the movement and organizational needs of run-and-gun hunting. The suspension wears like a light pack rather than a strapped-on seat, and the bulk-free profile is made for speedy, snag-free movement through thick brush and timber.
The adjustable pack strap system covers sizes XS through XXL, so the fit is dialed rather than approximate — the vest rides secure on the run and stays comfortable through long hikes and motionless sits.
Every call has a dry, quiet home
The pocket array is the reason to buy this vest. A water-resistant molded clamshell with a magnetic closure keeps two pot calls dry in divided sleeves, with three diaphragm calls in easy-access slots. The box-call pocket is water-resistant and snug, specifically to eliminate unwanted noise. Right- and left-side pockets hold four strikers, three internal mesh zippered pockets take tags and small items, and a shallow zippered top pocket has a key clip.
An open-top outside pocket stashes rain gear for fast access, and the large zippered back pocket is hydration-bladder compatible — a detail most turkey vests skip.
The seat and the carry out
The removable dual-density foam seat is the classic turkey-vest idea done right: it deploys for the sit, then cinches back up and stays harnessed tight to the pack when you move — no seat flapping behind you on the run.
When the hunt works out, four compression straps connect to each other to secure a bird, and a removable fowl slip noose clips onto the shoulder strap. Two blaze orange flags on the back deploy for a safer walk out through the woods.
Verdict
The most thoughtfully organized turkey vest we have catalogued — pack-like comfort, weather-protected and silent call storage, and a seat that actually stays put. It carries a premium price and a bit more weight than minimalist options, but for run-and-gun hunters it earns both.
