Exped's Ultra 7R is a cold-weather workhorse, purpose-built for three-season backpacking pushing into winter, or for anyone who sleeps cold. It uses a Texpedloft microfiber insulation that's bonded to both the top and bottom of the air chambers, ensuring consistent warmth even if the pad shifts. The R-value of 7.1 is genuinely impressive for an inflatable pad that still manages a decent packed size. Construction feels robust, with a 20D ripstop polyester on top and a thicker 40D ripstop polyester on the bottom, giving us more confidence when setting up camp in rougher terrain. The pad's 3.5-inch thickness provides excellent cushioning, making it particularly comfortable for side sleepers. The integrated pump bag, which doubles as a dry sack, is a brilliant feature – it makes inflation easy, quick, and keeps moisture out.
