Methodology
- Source. Each winner's 10-item list is transcribed from on-screen loadout cards and official contestant materials, then cross-checked against contestant interviews and post-season write-ups.
- Normalization. Raw item names are mapped to a controlled vocabulary so equivalent gear counts once per kit. Both the raw and normalized name ship in the CSV so you can re-run the analysis your own way.
- Counting. Frequency is a count of winners, not of items — a kit with two knives still counts once for Knife. Purpose shares are computed over every filled slot.
- Coverage & limits. 12 of 12 recorded winners have a complete published item list. Seasons without a verified list are excluded from percentages rather than guessed.
- Updates. The page and CSV regenerate from the live database, so corrections and new seasons propagate automatically.

Questions about the dataset
- Can I republish charts or numbers from the Alone Loadout Index?
- Yes. The dataset is published under CC BY 4.0. Use any figure, table, or chart as long as you credit The Wild10 and link back to https://wild10.com/alone/loadout-index.
- Where does the Alone loadout data come from?
- Every row is transcribed from the 10-item lists shown on screen and in History Channel contestant materials, cross-checked against contestant interviews, then normalized so naming variants (felling ax vs hatchet) count as one item.
- How often is the dataset updated?
- It regenerates from our live contestant database, so new seasons and corrected item lists appear in the CSV and on this page automatically as soon as they are entered.
- What format is the download?
- A UTF-8 CSV with one row per item per winner, including series, season, air year, winner, item position, raw item name, normalized item name, and purpose bucket.
