Permits

Wilderness & backcountry permits

Many popular wilderness areas cap overnight use. Some open by lottery months ahead, others release walk-up permits the day before. The managing agency's page is the only source for current dates.

Park entry & reservations

National and provincial parks may need an entry pass, a timed-entry reservation in peak season, or both. Campsites often book out the moment they open.

Fishing & hunting licenses

Buy from the state, provincial or national agency where you'll fish or hunt. Hunter education usually comes first, and tags may need a draw application.

Fire, road & special-use rules

Seasonal fire bans, forest road closures and drone rules change mid-season. Check again the week you leave.
