Sample trip plans with realistic durations. Distances and logistics come from the managing agency — confirm current conditions before committing.

Route options

  • Eagle to Circle — about 158 river miles, the full preserve reach and the standard trip.
  • Eagle to Coal Creek / Slaven's Roadhouse — roughly the upper half, for parties who arrange a pickup mid-route.
  • Charley River add-on — a fly-in to the Charley and a float out to the Yukon, for expedition parties with charter budget.

8 days

Standard Eagle-to-Circle float

Launch at Eagle, average 20–25 river miles a day with two weather-buffer days, visit Slaven's Roadhouse at Coal Creek, and take out at Circle with a pre-booked shuttle back to Fairbanks.

10 days

Unhurried ten-day

The same reach at a slower pace, with layover days for hiking the bluffs above the Charley confluence and fishing the clear-water tributary mouths.

Access points

  • Eagle, Alaska — end of the Taylor Highway; the standard put-in.
  • Circle, Alaska — end of the Steese Highway; the standard take-out.
