Alone Season 13, Episode 7 Recap: Natural Order, a Moose and a Stalking Bear

What happened in "Natural Order"

Episode 7 aired July 29, 2026. Per History's logline, wildlife encounters push the participants to their limits: one has a run-in with a moose and another is stalked by a bear, while the environment keeps testing body and mind alike.

This is the first episode of the season where the animals set the agenda instead of the weather.

The moose: the biggest prize and the biggest risk

A moose is the single most season-changing animal in the Alone universe. One adult animal is hundreds of pounds of meat and, more importantly, fat — the thing an Arctic contestant runs out of first. Žiga Ogorelec's moose kill is the reason he entered the final stretch with a visible reserve the others could not match, and it is the clearest causal line between one hunting decision and a $500,000 result.

The risk is just as real. A moose is dangerous to approach wounded, the butchery is days of heavy work in the cold, and the meat then has to be protected from exactly the predator in the second half of this episode.

The bear: what stalking actually costs

Being stalked by a bear costs a contestant three things at once:

1. Sleep. Vigilance at night is a calorie and cognition tax that compounds fast.
2. Food security. A cache raided by a bear is not a setback in the Arctic in autumn — it is often unrecoverable, because the animals that filled it are no longer available.
3. Freedom of movement. A contestant who does not want to leave camp undefended stops running the trapline that feeds them.

Season 13 pays this off directly later. In episode 11, "Fire and Famine," a brazen bear raid on a critical food source leaves one participant reeling, at a point in the winter where replacing that food is close to impossible.

The analysis: predators are a design problem

Good Arctic camps treat wildlife as an engineering constraint, not a surprise:

• Cache food away from the sleeping shelter and downwind of it.
• Elevate or cover caches, and keep butchery sites separate from camp.
• Keep the fire and the smell of cooking in one place, and the bed in another.

Contestants who build these separations early spend episode 7 uncomfortable. Contestants who did not spend it losing calories.

Where the field stood

Four of the ten were already out by this point: David Young (day 3), Dave Booth (day 4), Poldi Waldmann-Moloney (day 14) and Clementino Pedrosa (day 21, medical). Will Longley would exit at day 30 with fecal impaction, a starvation-diet injury that shows up in almost every long Alone season.
