The original trips lasted seven days; when the show returned in 2012 the survival stretches grew to ten days, with Stroud hauling roughly 65 pounds of camera gear. It ran for eight seasons plus specials between 2004 and 2016.

Eight seasons plus nine specials, running from 2004 to 2016.

Does Les Stroud really film himself?

Yes — he operates the cameras alone on location. A support team monitors from a distance and he carries an emergency satellite phone, so “self-filmed” doesn't mean “no safety arrangements.”
