How the show is filmed
Stroud films himself with no accompanying crew. For the 2012 episodes he hauled about 65 pounds of camera equipment; he carries a harmonica and an emergency satellite phone while a support team monitors from a distance.

How the format evolved
The original survival trips lasted seven days; the 2012 return extended them to ten days, per Stroud's interview with Outside.
