Prep: 15 min
Cook: 40 min
Serves: 8
Difficulty: Easy

Ingredients

  • •2 cups all-purpose flour
  • •½ teaspoon baking soda
  • •1 teaspoon baking powder
  • •½ cup sugar
  • •1 cup sour cream
  • •2 count eggs
  • •½ cup butter
  • •1 cup fresh summer berries
  • •1 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • •¾ cup brown sugar
  • •1 ½ teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • •1 ½ teaspoons Kosher salt
  • •¾ cup unsalted butter

Equipment

  • • 12-inch Dutch oven
  • • Charcoal briquettes
  • • Mixing bowls
  • • Fork or fingers for cutting in butter

Instructions

  1. 1Start 25 to 30 charcoal briquettes.
  2. 2Grease a 12-inch Dutch oven with vegetable oil.
  3. 3Combine all the dry ingredients (flour, baking soda, baking powder, and sugar) in a mixing bowl.
  4. 4Melt the butter in a small saucepan and cool. Add the sour cream and eggs, and mix well. Fold the butter mixture into the dry ingredients, stirring only until moistened.
  5. 5Fold the berries into the mixture, and pour it into the Dutch oven.
  6. 6Using a fork, cut in the butter with brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, and salt in a small bowl.
  7. 7Sprinkle the streusel over the top of the cake.
  8. 8Place the Dutch oven over 8 to 10 coals, and place 12 to 15 on top.
  9. 9Bake for approximately 40 minutes. Serve warm with whipped cream.

Camp tips

  • • Do not overmix the batter when combining the wet and dry ingredients. This keeps the cake light and fluffy.
  • • For a delicious twist, experiment with different berries based on the season.
