The series relocates to Patagonia, Argentina, where ten contestants are dropped at separate lakeside sites without the ocean resources available in prior seasons. Each begins building shelter and testing unfamiliar terrain for food. Jim Shields quickly finds himself regretting the decision to leave his family and taps out.

Contestants face new wildlife hazards and increasingly difficult terrain as the competition wears on. Britt Ahart, missing his family deeply, decides to end his run at this stage. The remaining participants continue their push through the physical and emotional strain of the season.

In the finale, Dave Nessia is medically evacuated after his blood pressure drops to dangerous levels from prolonged starvation, and Megan Hanacek exits after suffering dental injuries. Carleigh Fairchild is pulled for a critically low BMI after 86 days, leaving Zachary Fowler, who had lost roughly a third of his body weight, to be declared the winner after 87 days alone in Patagonia.
